El Platamal CoE

Postby espressomattic » Sat Aug 30, 2008 11:21 pm

Or something like that anyway, from Gautemala (Again crap spelling)

This is a really unusual coffee. No tasting notes/roasting guide so I went into it a bit blind.

I took the initial roast to just before 2C. Very mottled texture to the beans.

In the cup it was very bright, un ripe cherry and quite sweet. Not acidic, dry almost like a young wine. Very light mouthfeel to it. I am leaving it to age for a week to see how it goes.

I did another roast today and took it to the very first pops of 2C.

Still some of the basic characteristics in the cup. The brightness was somewhat muted and gave way to a more rounded berry like aroma, which was more pleasing. No other descriptions apart from these really. I think that due to the brightness of this coffee it would be better suited to the press pot or Aerobie.

Still, very nice. :)

I have just tried it in the Aerobie. I was actually aiming for the press pot but set the grinder too fine.

Anyhow, the brightness is quite muted and it is coming through a little floral with just the smallest hint in there of citrus or unripe apples. It is still tasting 'dry', but is much more pleasent this way than espresso. Would make a really nice afternoon coffee as it is really quite refreshing.

Sounds like a good candidate for the Aerobie mate. What size 'shot' did you brew in it? :D

Sounds delicious! Too bad you can't try all of CoE's coffees :)

5 Days and all the berries are claming down and the inital brightness is giving way to a subtle cup...Quite full bodied in the press pot and it has developed nicely in the espresso. This would really compliment a nice buttery/chocolatly bean I reckon.

Took it to work to educate one of the guys (Previously bought in 2 year old ground coffee)

Went down a treat, to the point of saying 'That was REALLY nice". Another small step in the right direction! :)
