Kenwood burr coffee grinder

Postby Guest » Wed Aug 02, 2006 2:42 pm

I'm on a fairly tight budget for a coffee bean grinder and found this one:

Kenwood CG600 Burr Mill Coffee Grinder 280g 100w (Black)

Anyone have one or care to comment? Although on a fairly pathetic budget, i wanted to go for a burr grinder as opposed to a 'chopper' and this is all I could find.

Any comments most welcome, thank you! :)

Depends what you're grinding for - I very much doubt it would be up to grinding for espresso. Have a look at these pictures of burr sets to see the problem with cheaper grinders

It might do for drip/french press.

If you want good burrs for cheap bucks try the hand crank Zassenhauses.

looks like someone already tried it. See the amazon review (for those with nervous disposition (particularly spelling related) I should warn you that the content may not be suitable): ... n=11052681

I used to use this one: ... &s=kitchen

which was modified to grind finer (search Was ok for the old el-cheapo machine but the gaggia classic had a thrombosis.

The Dualit (aka Solis 166) can be had for c. £50 and it's fine for non-espresso use. It is a bit dearer though. It's mentioned on Ken Wilson's Web page as the 166 but I'm baffled that he calls it messy.

Grinders : Macap MXK conical for espresso, Mahlkoenig Vario for Chemex, Macap MC6 (spare when our office was closed) for cafetiere, Zassenhaus Knee Mill for cafetiere when working away from home.
La Spaziale Vivaldi S1 espresso machine. HotTop KN8828P roaster. Chemex manual drip for most brewed coffee plus cafetieres and eSantos.

The Dualit mentioned by Hugh can be had for £42 at the Starbucks outlet store near me (it has a permanent 30% discount). It is the cheapest price I have seen for a remotely feasable espresso grinder. I am always happy to help if anyone wants one.

Thanks for you inputs chaps :)

Think I'm going to go with the Dualit from Starbucks as it seems the best value for money. Fortunately, as I work in London, they are not in short supply around here! :)

Now. Just gotta find a decent coffee machine.....hmmmmmm :)

i've had one for about 8 months and its not really messy, although my Dad also has one and it has a weird habit of chucking grinds out the front, even though theres no perceivable gap between the grind catcher thing and the machine!
