Iberital 1GR Help

Postby boldham » Tue Jan 29, 2013 7:00 pm

1st post. Thanks for great forum.
I've acquired a 2005 Iberital 1GR (rebranded as Mr. Espresso).
When I took apart machine, I found a thermistor/thermocouple just dangling in the cabinet. I assume it is a safety shutoff as it is wired to what appears a safety switch for the right panel (which I assume is to keep you away from 220V). Should it just dangle in the bottom of the machine or does it belong elsewhere?
Any other tips, manuals would be greatly appreciated! I'd really love to find a parts list/exploded view of machine for future troubleshooting.
Thanks gang!

No dangling! Could be the element overheat sensor - if a machine has one it's more likly to be hanging out, but gonna need some photos on this one

I'll check around whether I have some diagrams for your machine.
Three Francesconi (CMA) espresso machines - Rossi, San Marco, LaCimbali, Faema and 2 Mazzer Major grinders- CoffeeTech Maggionlino, Hottop, Alpenröst and HW Precision roasters.
I decided I needed a bit of a change so I roasted some Monsooned Malabar. That was a change!

Hi Boldham, welcome to TMC. :D I don't have any information on your machine but hopefully others will be able to help.

Hi all: I've confirmed that it is the heating element thermostat, but I still can't figure out where it goes! See pics below.

Sorry about the pics. I've attached image. Thanks again for any help.
Follow-up: I heard back from "Mr. Espresso", the company that rebrands this unit in the states. Looks like the heating element was replaced with one without a well for the temperature probe. The probe was to protect heating element in the event of dry firing (preventing element from getting over 140C). I'm not sure JB welding to boiler would offer any protection. My guess is that the element would already be destroyed by the time the probe triggered shut-off. Any input appreciated.

Yes, fixing it to the outside of the boiler will not help as, with the boiler empty the element will burn out long before the boiler gets that hot. You really should fix it to something, however, to ensure it does not come into contact with any live connections. :?

I'll make sure it doesn't hit anything live; especially as it's 240V. Thanks!
