Not enough coffee

Postby simonp » Wed Dec 22, 2004 9:46 pm

Yes, instead of too much coffee, I've been drinking not enough coffe
None since last Friday in fact, due to having some damn flu virus, and been running a temperature since Saturday. Felt better this morning and went back to work thinking I might have an espresso in the evening :) .
What happens? my damn temperature came back this evening, so caffeine not a good idea :x .

I've no idea if I suffered withdrawal symptoms due to going cold turkey (very seasonal  ) as I had such a massive headache from the virus I wouldn't have noticed a caffeine withdrawal one

Meanwhile all my nice fresh beans go stale in the cupboard

Didn't know caffeine is not recommended when you have flu ?
I have one little right now and drink quite a lot of coffee, do I mistake ?

I read somewhere that coffee (or the cafeine in it) can ease the symptoms of a cold virus (which is not the flu, of course). And there's quite a few painkillers out there with cafeine in them.
This week I am eagerly anticipating the first god shots from my La Spaziale machine....

 I always assumed that caffeine would be a bad thing when you are ill, I presumed it would make a headache worse etc. I presume that caffeine is put in painkillers/cold remedies to make you feel perkier.

I still don't think a big shot of caffeine (double espresso) would be a good idea with a temperature, I found my heart rate would rapidly rise given the slightest exertion.

Caffeine actually improves the effectiveness of certain painkillers - ie paracetamol plus caffeine has been found to be more effective at relieving headaches than paracetamol alone. http://www.jr2.ox.ac.uk/bandolier/booth ... ACten.html

ah, thanks maurice - I knew there had to be a reason they put it in painkillers :)
