Your perfect coffee

Postby kingseven » Tue Nov 02, 2004 5:48 pm

This isn't really about the drink. Or I'dve put it in the Espresso forum. Its more about where you are, your surroundings, the sounds and the smells.

If you've just brewed a damn fine cup where would you like to retire to, in order to enjoy it properly?

Its an odd question, and I will explain a bit more later on.

Sitting outside the café on a sunny day, early spring, with a very good friend. We are relaxing on the blanked-covered chairs after a steady italian-style lunch, finished off with a lovely smokey whisky and a cigar. People are walking by slowly, it´s a lazy day.
Half way through the Cubano already, I am enjoying an unusually glorious ristretto shot with this cafe´s local blend-for-the-season. My friend takes a sip on his mezzo, then leans back and closes his eyes to catch the sunrays.
Ahhh. And while we´re at it, why not Coltrane & Miles jamming in the background with Ben Harper and the Blind Boys of Alabama. We´ll be joining them soon. Time slows down... stands still. This is an eternal moment. God, please let there be espresso in heaven...

Sorry, another vote for the big Cigar. :drink: Oh, and the malt. Like the wood panelled library though.

And Ben Webster if we're doing tenor players, big cigars and wood panelled libraries.

Cheers

Not so odd.
I put Mark Knopfler Shangri-La CD in my CD player and fall in my sofa. The sound of this recording is as enveloping as a good espresso :)

Yeah Ben Webster's good for me in those circumstances too - I agree Rollins is not relaxing. But superb though. And at least he's still alive!

The Rollins was for the outdoor cafe scenario from another poster.

Now, if I could be anywhere, it'd be at the top of the Seiser Alm (Dolomites) early evening outside one of the restaurants there with the sun setting on the Rosengarten. Otherwise, it'd be my back garden, late spring. However, the next bit shows my younger tastes... it'd have to be Brecker, preferably his more acoustic stuff, if I'm trying to relax...

At the risk of this becoming toomuchsaxophone.com I still have a soft spot for his early solo stuff, the self titled one and Don't Try this at Home are just so great. If you like your EWI though...

Eeyy, this could be the beginning of a wonderful friendship :)
Me like Brecker Bros too, both of them, solo and together. Straphangin´would be perfect with a ristretto. Or East River, or Delta City Blues, or...

I reckon in front of a spectacular view - perhaps the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls - in the Presidential Suite of the Fallsview Marriott with the windows removed completely so I can hear as well as see the Falls, watching the sun rise behind the Falls with music like O Fortuna playing loud enough to shake the windows if they were there.
I wish I were what I was when I wished I were what I am.

Thanks for this guys.

As a little bit of explanation I am working on pairing coffee with pleasing sights/smells/tastes that we assosciate with coffee but not with liquid - tobacco being the most obvious (though I am sure it would be thoroughly frowned upon by a judging panel these days.....)

Interesting too the music you chose....
