calibrated LCD monitor too dark

Hi everyone,

lately I've been struggling with the settings of my home LCD monitor, which is an older model bought around 3-4 years ago (Samsung 173P Plus). I've used this:

http://www.momentskept.com/MonitorCalibration.htm

to calibrate the display, but even though it 'passes' the tests on that website everything is so damn dark! For example I was looking at the second photo from the top in this topic:

http://www.home-barista.com/grinders/el ... 11500.html

today at work (some Dell LCD) and I could see all the detail, the left puck being brighter in colour than the other, the grinds on top of both puck and so on. At home I can't see shit, seriously just two black circles on beige background.

Can anyone explain what the hell is going on?

Regards,
dsc.

Hello dsc,

Do you use the NVIDIA Control Panel? (Start Menu>Control Panel>Display>Settings (tab)>Advanced(bottom right button)>GeForce 7600 GT (tab)> Start the NVIDIA Control Panel(button)>Display (left hand side 'Select a Task')>Adjust desktop colour settings

Hopefully you can now tweak your settings further and turn your brightness up?

Good luck 8)

Hi Tom,

yeah but I've used it to calibrate everything properly according to those test pics on that calibration site and it's still all very dark. That's the problem, if I tweak it more and turn up the brightness (which is at 82% anyway) it won't be properly calibrated.

dsc.

That's a very strange problem indeed.

Can you think of any reason why gif and JPEG would display with different colour profiles on your machine?

Hi Tom,

dunno really, the desktop looks pretty good and I can use programs without them being too dark. It's only the damn photos that look bad and not bright enough.

dsc.

I have a 'Spyder Elite' screen calibration device that you are welcome to borrow, just as long as it is postage to Surrey and not Poland.

PM me.

Try raising the Gamma setting in nVidia CP this won't adjust the colours and should bring everything brighter without bleaching out fainter tones
