The beginning of the Ultimate Barista Fighting League!

Postby anette » Wed Jul 15, 2009 8:17 pm

The first event!

16 places available, for you to pour head to head going through 4 rounds to become champion. Think Wimbledon, but more exciting.

One shot, one pour.

Draw announced at 7pm, with the first round starting at 7.30pm

Coffee will be provided from a neutral source. Pours will be judged by the crowd, but the MC’s decision is final.

Free beer for everyone. Spaces may be available on the night but you can book a guaranteed place to compete by buying a ticket via the blog.

Trash talk, costumes, own pitchers, silliness and amusement encouraged!

I don't know how I missed this until now...

...On second thoughts, i do - I've been helping my GF's dad choose a bike - and perhaps the Behmor has something to do with it :D

Anyway, I should be there, +1 - I need to introduce my GF to the madness. (Plus, it's always a good idea to go out with her, if going out mid-week - it increases my chance of getting home at a reasonable time) ;)

THAT WAS SO MUCH FUN!!!!!

Yes! Thank you Anette (and James too) for hosting the thing. An amazing night out / event / meet-up. And thank you to all the baristi who competed - inspirational!

Also, my significant other says to thank Bea and Cindy for the amazing cakes and marshmallow - and that the marshmallow is the best she has ever had. (And Maria really, really likes marshmallow).

Lastly - Lyndsey was fantastic; am i right, to think i heard someone say she's a home barista?

yes, must say thanks to everyone involved in organizing a very fun event, I didn't get chance to hang around on the night had to leave not long after the final pour. I think it was very fitting that the person in the mexican wrestling mask won in the end. (el griffo)
They could probably hear the cheers on the trains going overhead

I hope i can make it to the next one, nobody is letting on yet what it might be? I can't quite work out how this throwdown thing will work on something other than latte art? Maybe get out the extract mojo and see who can get closest to a 20% extraction?
I'm sure James and Anette have something fun in mind.
I really wish i had remembered my camera. I'm sure photos are going to pop up though.

Triptogenetica... I'm currently a home barista, but did a stint in F&W last summer (which i truly loved), but I now work for drury as their trainer, which is cool, feel like i'm dong my cause helping people get passionate about coffee.

Also want to say big thanks to everyone, fighters, beer drinkers and james and annette, fab night, can't wait til the next.
