Aside from motoman ever-wise comments :), I'd say (from tiny personal experience) go with a Japanese car. They're built to last.

Have a nissan micra, bought for chips, did 60'000 miles with it and had one breakdown all told (clutch, which is wear and tear for a 12-year-old car). Parts are very cheap, petrol consumption very reasonable, and no cam belt to worry about! Rust will do it in before anything goes wrong on it... that's english salted roads for you! :?

1. Persuing cars is pointless unless you are a dog.

2. You need to buy one not win it in a street race.

3. Stick to a bike, you meet more girls that way.

4. If you are not that way, give up.

5. A phaeton costs a fortune and all you have is a volkswagon.

6. I think it is time for my medication.

All of these are FACTS. Apart from 5, isn't a VW + a Bentley?!
