Postby jumper » Sun Oct 24, 2004 3:39 pm

hi i'm mark a real rookie
so here's my question i have been trying to make a latte machiato but no matter how i trie it it pretty much comes out as a blurry mess with foam on top and i want it to look a bit more like the pictures you see everywhere(from bottem to top, milk coffee foam).
is it even possible?

hi mark
make cappuccino foam, pour it in a glass, let is sit for a little while until the milk has seperated from the foam (milmk below, foam above) - you will see a clear border.
I let the espresso run into a tiny, tiny pitcher instead of a shotglass, so it's easier to pour a fine stream into the middle of the foam cap. Slowly, very slowly pour the espresso.
You will see that the espresso will stay between the milk and the foam all by itself. Just a bit will flow below, but that's what makes the "staines", why it's called "macchiato" - which means "stained" in Italian.

Have fun!
Joey
"Latte" is french for "you've paid too much for your coffee"
