That is because it was named after the title of a book by Charles Kingsley ... I can't believe I have reworded my totally useless and uninteresting addition to a topic that has had me chuckling all day just to avoid the use of apostrophes

Doesn't the apostrophe have to go where the letter was omitted, as demonstrated in the first word of this reply.

'Spr'os before 'ho's which leads to a terrible muddle of ambiguous apostrophising.

Why is the hip-hop world keen to abbreviate single sylable words? Why is hip-hop hyphoned? Is it not a composite word, like foot-ball?

yeah, thats was a quality scene from The Wire....got the box set last Christmas...upto around series 3.....very good watch!
