hmmm, i think i would rather have jet lag than try to fast for 9 hours on a flight, its more for the safety of others, i would have resorted to cannibalism somewhere over Ireland i expect.

it was quite an interesting show, even if you have to take all these shows with a pinch of salt. I wish they had done some slightly longer studies though, does anyone know how long caffeine or alcohol can effect the body. Some people think that caffeine builds up in the body even with just one cup a day.

There are a few interesting books on caffeine (I say interesting....)

The metabolism of caffeine is a very personal thing, and its half life in the body is quite dependent on your size, age and a number of other factors. I will dig them out and see if I can come up with anything particularly useful.

I'll never own too many items with which to enjoy coffee.

Alcohol is generally metabolised by the liver at 1 unit per hour for the average male (but the rate is influenced by age, sex, race and other factors but will be pretty consistent). Which is why you can still be over the limit the morning after a night out, if you've had loads to drink. And also why coffee (and cocaine for that matter) only stop you falling unconscious not actually sober you up, why Buckfast is popular with the youth of Glasgow (it has caffeine in it) and why cocaine is regularly taken with alcohol, the liver produces coca ethylene which has a third effect on brain chemistry and ages you quicker than each substance separately. Fructose is the only thing that speeds up alcohol metabolism. Can you tell I'm an addictions specialist? :)

Can't we keep on topic and discuss the relationship between wine & racks?

Ah, now in that case we should really consider the skilful art of riddling. "Remuage" is oh so important if you're going to talk about racks
Believe me, I've seen Cliquot's racks first hand

Thanks for this; feels slightly voyeuristic, watching Jim sleep, but if it's as he says/anything like the TV I've known, it's half faked anyway ;)
