HDD's are very delicate.......it doesn't take a shock of many 'G' to bugger them........they're especially delicate when powered up.

This is why laptop hard drives are a lot more expensive because they can take a shock of something like 200G......a standard hard drive would be well goosed if subjected to that.

Hi again,

of course you can't even buy a stupid HDD and a DVD writer easily (is it me or is it hard to get good service here in the UK?). For God's sake it's utterly stupid to say the least. They were out of stock with the HDDs and the shipment was due to come yesterday about which I was informed in an email. HDDs arrived today, but I got no email saying that my package was sent out, so I checked out the other item, which is the DVD writer and apparently that's out of stock now. Grrrrr...
