at least a form of socialism

Ah, then that would explain our belief in the intrinsic equality of all human beings whether they like good coffee or nescafe then?

By the way I like China Mieville even if he does occasionally feel the need to beat you (the reader) around the head with his politics!
Iain M Banks is an excellent writer too, just finished Matter which was great, especially the way EVERYONE dies! I love a gory finish in particular. 8) (Sorry about the spoiler there!)
This week I are mainly ready to get back to making muffins!"

Oh OK then, I'll make you more satay, chicken curry, coconut rice, etc... Of course, you'll need musical accompaniment... so I'll sing while you eat

ok ok!

besides polishing my coffee beans and many atimes roasting them before hand, i tend to drink them and use them for some cooking (just in case people did not know that)

besides composing in the kitchen i also compose at the piano, love golf, do a lot of writing and drawing

and besides that i like drinking the coffee others have polished.

Ok so I've come to this thread late since I tend not to look at the Off Topic bit of the forum. Started ages ago and last post a month old. However...

I have a couple of kids so hobbies tend to be mostly in my head these days. I have a few bonsai, have had more but I had a break for a while. I also had tropical fish for a while but they all died and the large tank became a small one and now it's in the shed, empty. I read a lot of genre fiction - science fiction and crime mostly, but I love Douglas Coupland, Paul Auster and Robert Anton Wilson as well, among other non-SF, non-crime writers so it's not exclusive. I also used to mountian bike, when I lived in Inverness but since moving back to Edinburgh commuted to work a lot (70-80 mpweek) until about 2 years ago, got lazy and get the bus. I've also played Eve Online for around 2 years (this is not connected to not cycling anymore) although have not enough time for lately, visited Reykjavik for Eve online fanfest last 2 years and planning to go again this year. I also love music - (just discovered Ladytron and Rammstein) especially Daniel Lanois, Nick Cave, Camper Van Beethoven & Electric Six; film - don't get to the cinema nearly enough; newest hobby is film making and editing - bought a video camera and tripod at christmas but have little time to gather footage to edit, its the editing I like, really.

Oh I also did tai chi for around 12 years or so, including instructing but fell out with the organisation a while back; now I volunteer doing needle exchange outreach 1 night a week but that's more of a professional interest.

Ah! Cycle commuting! Piece of advice - get any bike other than a mountain bike (I'm avoiding saying "road bike", since that implies clips and lycra - i ride a hybrid with 700c, road tyres) and commuting gets so much easier. 10 miles on a road bike can feel like 5 miles on a mountain bike! :)

Oh I don't use knobbly tyres. But yeah, it wasn't the tyres (or wheels) that were the problem but a lack of consistency in whether I was in the office or out at meetings, so it ended up with me only cycling to the office two or three times a week, so I'd really struggle to keep up the stamina in my legs. Before the promotion (2001&2002) I was going to work every day on the bike 365 days (minus hols) a year, in all weathers. After the first few weeks of building the leg strength it was fine. Once I moved sites and was cycling slightly further and less often it became too hard. And it didn't stop me getting middle age spread :(

yes, when I had a brief period of 20 miles a day, 5 days a week, it suddenly became a lot easier.

Unfortunately I now live less than a mile from work, so my morning commute is hardly exercise at all... :(

Ah, morning commutes... the distance from my bed to the kitchen is about the same distance as my kitchen to my desk
If you really want to see a mean machine, you should see James on his bike with its coffee bean spokey dokes
This week I are feeling sleepy!

Wow there's a LOT going on with everyone here :D

Apart from coffee, HMM that's a hard one!

I'm currently at uni for 7-8 months at a time and it's pretty intense (at least for me!) so my hobbies get executed in fits and bursts - I guess it's a double edged sword! (and never with any money...)

In no order:

Electronics - currently assembling a coil/Gauss gun and often make Cmoy audio amplifiers for a little extra money.

Apple macs - I saw someone else here with the same affliction. I currently own: Macintosh SE FDHD, Classic, Graphite G3 iMac 500 DVSE+, G4 450 Cube, Power CD, Emate 300, a few eMacs, Dual 1.25 G4 Mirrordoor. All get used at some point for something, I can't get rid of any. Like I say, it's an affliction.

Guitar - played bass for about 5-6 years and 6 string for about 3, it's something you can just pick up and enjoy and put back down again - I wish more things were like this!

Training - I like to lift weights and do a bit of cardio.

Videogaming - Uplink, Fallout 3, Morrowind, Oblivion, Vampire Bloodlines, C+C, Escape Velocity trilogy to name but a few - some say wasted youth. (?!)

I have had 3 VW beetles, '69, '72 and '73 'vintage'. Good, messy fun! Also doing a '65 Rover P5 straight 6 DG auto, what a lovely car :D

Lego! I got myself some NXT stuff, incredible! Interfacing bricks using Phillips I2C!

:)

Beetles are very cool. I used to have a Fiat 500 (made in 1973) which I restored and then (a month or 2 ago) swapped for a 1303 from '73. Last week I finished all the necessary welding (unfortunately not body-off resto since I have no garage).

edit: fixed typo

I have a couple of hobbies that I quite enjoy.

I've always been into web development, and (through my boyfriend) am getting into native coding. We worked together on our website (themacbox.co.uk) and knocked out a little iPhone app called Phonesaber which became Lightsaber Unleashed. It did quite well...

I also play the Oboe and Piano, but due to lack of space in my edinburgh city flat, both of those have been put on hold for the last few years :(

I quite like some light computer gaming, but have a problem with actually finishing games. Loved Bioshock and Oblivion. Portal was fun too. Looking forward to Bioshock 2 and Heavy Rain at the moment.

I love the theatre too. Both musicals and plays. Favourite musical is probably either Blood Brothers or Miss Saigon.

Follow all things tech, but mainly the cult of Apple. Unfortunately don't have the space to built a collection of old macs, but when I buy a house with my partner I'm sure we'll devote a room to the Church of Apple. Within this category I suffer from obsessive upgraditis and fanboy-early-adopter syndrome. Wouldn't change it for the world ;)

Sounds nice Joris. I really like the Fiat 500 but even a bad one is too much for me :)

The Church of Apple! Heheh. Again, (and luckily this time I think) finances have let me develop a great resistance to upgradeitis :D
