Too Much Coffee Equipment

Postby phil » Mon Aug 23, 2004 6:18 pm

I thought I'd let you good guys and gals have a laugh at my expense (hell the rest of the world does it so why should you get left out )

Today I took delivery of yet another new grinder. I was getting tired of not having any brewed coffee, and I have decided that I'm going to have to drill the screws out of the old burrs on my Rocky and fit new screws in order to replace the burrs, something I haven't got time to be messing around with for the moment. On top of which, my Rocky is the doser model, and as I only use it for brewed coffee since I took delivery of my La Spaziale Lusso espresso grinder, it's not really the tool for the job anymore.

Anyway, I decided to pend the fitting of the new burrs to the Rocky and get another grinder just for brewed coffee. I've been looking out for a secondhand shop grinder on eBay for a while now, and one came up a few days ago. I was lucky enough to win it for £87, and the vendor (who turned out to be none other than TMC's own Trev!) posted it Parcel Farce for me. It arrived today. It's a good job Allyson's very understanding isn't it?

So here are a couple of shots of my "Coffee Corner", where I keep my grinders and my Hottop.

Oh and while I'm at it, for those of you who haven't seen it this is my espresso machine.

Now all I need is a cafe unit and I'm away!

Sorry Phil, but it looks more like a retailer-shop to me with all those shining machines. I mean: 'where are the beans..?' Where's the dirt? Where is the sweat?

Michel, you can have a shot of my stash if you really want (large under-stairs cupboard with lots of bags of green and a very large wine rack ).

The dirt is on the floor and the sweat is on me. I don't propose to do pictorials of either!

Sounds good Phil... the wine. Suppose we have to roast the greens first
What my post was all about is that there are no beans in your hopper... Do you put the right amount of beans in the hoppers on demand..? Or do you have your hoppers filled with roasted coffee normally (but just not now, because of the picture..?).

Oh I see Michel.

No I only put coffee in my hoppers when I need it. In between times I keep it in air-tight canisters. I'm also very careful to clean the grinders out after each use, using a soft brush and an air duster (a can of compressed gas).

Thanks for the pictures Phil. I showed them to my wife and used them as evidence that my coffee habit isn't as all-encompassing as she was alleging :)

I think we need a poll here: partners' reactions to seeing Phil's set-up.

(1) The Mrs Tisri ("I take it all back - you're not as bad as I thought")

(2) "You're not putting one of those in our kitchen"

(3) "If that's how you're going to turn out, I don't want you having anything more to do with those weird coffee people"

(5) "Allyson must be a real saint"

(6) "I suppose they chop their vegetables in the garage"

(7) "Why can't you keep your stuff as tidy as that nice Phil"

Good one Maurice. I must admit when I bought my first coffee roaster (about the size of a large spaghetti jar) she asked where I was proposing to put it. I found somewhere to keep it only to send it back because it didn't work. Then came the Hottop. Then came the large bags of green beans. Then came more large bags of green beans. Today she decided that she rather likes the Nicaraguan Lozahoren and wants me to buy some more of it.

Erm, I think I should point out it's my kitchen. So if there's less worktop space it's me that has to struggle with it when cooking.

And Allyson *is* a real saint, no question.

My God Phil, how do you get away with it :?: I can still remember the grief I got last time I suggested buying a new grinder to the wife. Money well spent in my opinion, but she just couldn't understand what was wrong with the ones that I had.
How about a pic of your stash of greens 8)
