The Damned - Alone Again Or

Postby CakeBoy » Sun Jul 30, 2006 10:09 pm

It's funny how we all like some songs because they are good and others because they remind us of something (and they may be good too). Well following Alan's fab trip down memory lane with The Grateful Dead, does anyone remember this one by The Damned? It was actually a cover of a 20 year old record by "Love" from 1967. It was released by The Damned as a single in 1987 (from the 1986 Album "Anything") and didn't get into the top 30 of the singles chart. I was not a particular fan of The Damned, but this one just caught my ear because I am a sucker for a decent guitar rift. It still makes the hair on my neck stand up even now and reminds me of days long ago when life was very different, as was the world we lived in. Ignore the naff video ...... just listen to that haunting guitar :D

Uh-oh, one of my pet hates, it's guitar RIFF not RIFT, sorry it's a bit like the expresso/espresso thing for me!

SimonP - when I'm not working, roasting or drinking coffee, I'm riffing on the guitar

Oh my,the tingles.....
Good link Cakey,thanks.

However, the original version will always be my favourite and, unfortunately,I can remember it being released.
(13 at the time) Well worth a listen.

I sold the original Love 'Forever Changes' vinyl LP this year along with all my other vinyl,
after having saved them to computer.
That had to be the most nostalgic, self indulgent few weeks I've spent for many years.

An ex-bf introduced me to music by his ex-classmate: Jeff Healey Angel Eyes and another one While My Guitar Gently Weeps. I'm sure you'll be able to date these vids by the hair "style" ;)

This vid has an ever so slightly bigger budget than in Cakey's link ;) Dunno if I have ever really, really, really, loved another ;)
This week, I'm mainly recovering :DAll I've got is my Aerobie AeroPress | 70's Aurora/Brugnetti HX Spring Lever | Mazzer Mini E & SJ (on loan) | Hottop | Nestor Martin (Toto) Gas Roaster | Eva Solo | Moka Pots

Hmm, Jeff Healey, isn't it depressing when a guy who is blind can wipe the floor with your guitar playing

Can't argue much there. OK his stuff is not everyones taste, but you can't argue about the guy's influence (on so may musical styles) and how much he pushed the boundaries of electric guitar playing, and once you strip away the fireworks, a great blues player at heart.

Call me 'Old Fashioned' but its jazz for me
http://www.live365.com/cgi-bin/directory.cgi?genre=jazz
some call it cafe background music, but who cares. I do a lot of boring work from home churning out invoices and such and it makes the time fly. Modern is ok but I prefer Trad (page 4) Loadsa European bands too.
Who could resist Foggy Bottom Classic (Sweden), Schmackes or Hot Lips (Germany) Les Haricot Rouges (France) Blue Rythm Jugglers (Netherlands) - pure escapism.

Crikey - it's not often someone owns up to liking Trad Jazz. My preference is what's perhaps more accurately called "classic jazz" (i.e. mostly pre-WWII, pre-bebop) - Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Count Basie (and many, many others) - basically, as far as I'm concerned, the foundation of modern pop music (there's a whole thesis behind that proposition, but it doesn't belong on a coffee forum...)
