OK read it and I still don't see why I should use XHTML.

why not just use:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Strict//EN">

I think WAI coding standards are more important.

But you're a designer and I'm a developer ;)

"Merde" is kinda like saying "break a leg." It's bad luck to wish someone "good luck" in French, so you say "MERDE!" instead! Great fun in schools when everyone is taking their exams, as people wander around saying "MERDE!"
This week I are feeling sleepy!

He, never knew that even though I've had french classes for 4 years! Thanks!

Mhuk: I think Accessibility is more easily and more thoroughy achieved when you use xhtml. It's more structured, and allows you to "semantically" create your sites (with the help of css). The simpler the xhtml of your site is, the more likely it will be accessible. But let's not steal this topic here :)

LOL Gouezeri!

(I suppose the question is: Why XHTML as opposed to XML (machine readable data) + XSLT (to display it)?)

XML is used to describe data and XLST is used to transform that data. It has nothing to do with the web per se (although it can be used to supply information to a web page).

End of hijack ;)

Well, took some time. But after a lot of mucking about I'm heading over to London next week for an interview at Vexed Digital in Notting Hill. So, once again, I ask you to keep your fingers crossed. Let's hope I nail this one! :D

Yes indeed. Lycka till!
Can't understand why anyone would want to use anything but XHTML. For the everyday stuff, I thought it wasn't a problem? "Don´t use capital letter tags and never leave a tag unfinished (wrong: <br>, right: <br />), and set up your editor for xhtml" is what I used to say to my students.
But then, I am not so much a developer, I am more of a designer... a small scale designer at that. Hooray for CSS!

As mentioned earlier the use of CSS is a lot more important to designers. Take a look at the CSS Zen Garden http://www.csszengarden.com/ for an example of just what you can achieve with CSS. Oh and good luck with the job

Time to beat the dead horse (or thread) again!

I never got the internship in London, instead I'm at a web bureau in Gothenburg, Sweden. But I'm as happy as ever with this placement. :D

Oh yeah, mhuk, you're absolutely right that there is no point in using XHTML (insert flavor here) instead of HTML 4.01 Strict. Even if you do serve it as application/xhtml+xml, there little advantage in using it at the moment. Well, just needed to get that off my chest, I guess.

Back on topic; I couldn't bring my Silvia with me unfortunately, but there's two great coffee places just five minutes from the office (I even pass them every morning on my way to work) so I'll survive for sure. :D
