The Ken Davids book is easily obtainable at Amazon, which is where I got mine (long before I knew Steve). If you want an interesting book on roasting, fine. If you want lots of useful stuff and "howto" info on home roasting it's seriously out of date. I've heard that the new "edition" isn't really an update either, but I don't know that for sure.

I also bought it because I liked the idea of having a machine that was on 24/7, but I nearly always switch it off at night otherwise the water reservoir gets really hot.

For that, I have a nifty timer installed on my VBM. Always hot by the time I stumble out of bed!
This week I am eagerly anticipating the first god shots from my La Spaziale machine....

Same here. Preheated for at lest 45 minutes, but since I am not a morning person, most often for at least 1 hour!

It is my setup indeed. I am thinking of taking a picture against a lighter background from a different angle so th at you can see the PID attached to the left side of my machine (actually you may see a red pixel in my avatar, top left of my machine: that's the PID!)

I might look into the timer, but I don't usually have a coffe much before mid morning (tea first thing  ) so I switch on in the morning and it's plenty warm enough when I need it. The timer would be handy though as I sometimes forget to switch it off at night.
