Chat?

Postby Jo2 » Thu Apr 28, 2005 8:28 pm

Hey, i was wondering... is there any way we could chat realtime on the forum...?
Since it sometimes (like now) happens that a couple of members are online simultaniously, it might be fun to chat live with each other... Especially when we are in a humorous mood, like gouezeri today...
Just an idea...

We used to have a TMC chat room as part of the site. No-one used it. For that reason I didn't bother re-installing the software when we moved to the current server.

Jo, I love writing, but I am too shy for chatting. (can't edit nonsense :-D) And then I always wanna have the last word, so I hardly stop - and then I spend more time in the forum then I usually wanted.... so for me chatting is dangerous >lol<

greetings

can you even imagine what my ramblings on dosers and wooden mallets would be like in real time... Phil has a bad enough job putting up with all my emails already! ;-)
That said, we all have the ability already to publish our IM details...

Exactly. Probably a better solution for us than a dedicated TMC chat room IMO.

Of course, if enough people disagree then I'll put the facility back. But I'm not keen personally. It was a hassle from a user's point of view as it kept getting swatted by people's pop-up blockers and I spent quite a bit of time on technical support.

Running live chat rooms is a major hassle (did it years back) and would require quite a lot of work from Phil, plus there's always the increased risk of spam etc. There are plenty of Instant Messaging networks and software which allow conferencing (more than one user in the same "room") as well.
