That's the thing about places to eat and drink......it depends what mood you are in.
On a Friday, for me, the best pub is The Puckersley Inn, Royton. The perfect end to the week with a simple pint of JWLees and Seabrook Beefy crisps.

If I feel the need to try something new the Port Street is great.

If I'm out with the family somewhere like Home Sweet Home would be perfect.....something for everyone!

Of course, at home, nothing beats a HasBean coffee.

I feel very lucky to have such choices and the means to enjoy them.

All great recommendations so far :)

Coffee wise, Caffeine & Co are good too, but I've only actually made it there once as they aren't open at weekends. They use Square Mile I believe.

Port street beer house is nice though the price of my last beer there reminded me of the euston tap. Though it is not coffee, what thoughts on The Marble Arch?

I LOVE Marble Arch - far too long since I was there last! More central, their Thomas Street shop is a good one for a quieter mid-day drop in :)

Not sure if Imentioned this but there's a nice little place in Saddleworth called Toast - you can find them on Facebook.
Most recent post went like this;

"Great excitement here at Toast. We've just received 70kg of this year's crop from Finica Muxbal in Mexico. It's wonderful stuff. I roast it for my brother's Mexican restaurant in Bristol, and for general sale.
COFFEE IS A LIFESTYLE, BUT ROASTING IS MUCH, MUCH MORE"

My only issue with some of the very fine independent shops is the size of the drinks they serve.

I drink from a mug mostly at home.....a nice loooooong drink. Why do you get a flat white in a thimble? Even the filter options are barely a teacup full.

I have a pet hate of coffee in glasses, it seems to becoming more prevalent and I don't like it !!

Totally agree Steve, especially when they are essentially the size of shot glasses.

What's wrong with serving coffee in mugs? I note this is often the case in the 'In My Mug' episodes.....hence the name I suppose!!!

That does not apply to espresso obviously - most places get the size right for this.

Interestingly there is a growing trend of serving coffee with a glass of water which I quite like actually.

I heard that in some Scandinavian countries, they often serve coffee with orange juice though I'm not sure this is true.
