Is it actually possible to find a good shot?

Does anybody know a place to drink decent coffee in Geneve? I will go there to meet some friends of mine and I would love to take them for a nice cappa.

Thanks!

edit2: the do rosetta's and even have Ethiopia Moka Harrar in the grinder.

Certainly worth a try.

Aadje, you've done the impossible: find a place in that damn city that might serve something approaching coffee

Having lived there for nearly 20 years, I'm mightily impressed! :D

My only worry is where would get their beans from - even the specialist roasters in Switzerland are pretty rubbish, IMO. In any case, it's definitely worth a try, especially in Geneva - will definitely go there when I'm back there in July!

When I'm there in july (7 - 11) I'll ask where they get their beans from (at least, if my french is that good . . .). I'll keep you updated.

Well, went there yesterday and had a nice chat with the manager, Fabien. It's a very new shop and they are only opened now for 5 weeks! After a visit to Australia some 3 years ago, he encountered good coffee there, made some money as barista, and set his mind to opening such a shop in Switzerland. I must say he did a great job. Three group Dalla Corte machine, Mokka Harrar and their espresso-blend in two grinders. And I was the first other barista visiting his shop. What an honour.

They get their beans from belgium, as they found out the same you did, Fred, no good roasters in Switzerland.

I had two cappas with the Harrar, which tasted very nice. And then he made me two espressos, one harrar and one espresso-blend. The harrar I could definitely recognize from the cappas and their espressoblend had a very fresh/citrusy taste to it, very nice.

I forgot my camera, so no pics :( But I've recommended TMC to him, so we might see him around here some time.

whole Beans in Geneva

Postby jonny_NYC » Mon Aug 03, 2009 12:37 pm

Thanks for the tip on Boréal Coffee Shop, I'll check it out.
Has anyone tried Carasso?

http://www.carasso.ch/templates/BUILTIN ... uId=MzAyMg
their main office is in Meyrin which I drive through everyday.

I just found out that Illy is called Amici in CH, this may be old news to some of you but it explains the disappointing bag of ground sitting in my cupboard.

Any other thoughts on where to buy beans (in person, not mail order) Either in Geneva of the French side? In NYC, I would buy a roast called Vienna Sumatra from Porto Rico/ http://portorico.com/store/page2.html.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi guys !
I am Fabien, the manager of Boréal Coffee Shop.
I didn't know toomuchcoffee.com. It's a nice discovery, thanks Aadje !

Our coffee shop has been opened for 2 months only.
I falled in love for coffee three years ago, when I lived in Australia.
My girlfriend worked as a barista and gave me the virus.

Me and my associate are focused on quality coffee. We travelled in Europe to visit coffee shops and made lot's of workshop to learn the job of barista.
We try to do the best we can and keep learning every days.

We haven't found any good roasters in Switzerland yet.
Our beans come from knopes cafe. It's a great roaster based in Belgium.
The are focused on quality and have a great coffee & barista culture.
I will try to contact rast.ch very soon, I heard lot's of good things about them.

fred25, our coffee shop is closed for three weeks (summer vacation).
It will reopen the 17th of August.

I will let you know my thoughts about rast.ch very soon.

Cheers,
Fabien

:)

Hi Fabien - i actually managed to sneak in before the summer closure, and had some very nice doubles of harrar and the house blend, as well as a cappa with lovely milk texture! (served by Julien, if memory serves me correctly - so apologies, Aaadje, I couldn't give Fabien your regards!)

I meant to come again with my camera before posting here, but never got round to it, and it was summer closure anyway so I wouldn't have been able to! :)

Will definitely visit again next time I'm in Geneva - great coffee, and lovely shop too (as the photos show) :D

Stopped by this morning. Had the best coffee since arriving in the Genevé area in June. Thank you Fabien! I also bought some beans which were reasonably priced. Lovely place.

rast & swiss coffee day

Postby fdecroux » Fri Sep 11, 2009 3:23 pm

Hi guys,

Me and my associate met rast coffee roaster last week.
We have tried their coffee and I have a very good news :
There is at least one excelent coffee roaster in Switzerland.

We are going to work with them from now.
I will give you more information on their single origins and blends soon.
By waiting you can have a look at their website : rast.ch

Fresh beans, great single origins, barista school, etc.
That's great :)

--

By the way, the 25th of September 2009 is the "Swiss coffee day".
We are organising a nice event at Boréal Coffee Shop : cup tasting, show barista, etc.
It's the occasion to test rast coffee beans, it's free, you are all welcome.
It's gonna be a great day, if you leave close from Geneva, come to see us :)) !
Ingo Rogalla will be there. It's the 2008 swiss cup tasting champion. He is going to animate the cup tasting workshop.

You will find more information there :
http://borealcoffee.ch/la-journee-du-cafe-en-suisse.html
(this page is in french but I can give you more information in English if you want)

See you soon,
Fabien.
