The Bottle Kiln, Ilkeston

Postby Gadders » Sat Apr 25, 2009 4:29 pm

Wow what a treat I had today. Just 15 minutes from my house in Nottingham, lies the bottle kiln. Some of you may recognise the name, 'home' to Maxine Beadsmore, who has competed in the UKBC over the past several years and came 2nd to Gwilym this year. Fortunately for me she was there today, we had a lovely chat about the UKBC, Gwilyms fantastic performances and got treated to a lovely cappa :) She was expectionally friendly, knowledgable and it was a real treat for me to be able to chat in depth to somebody so passionate and skillful.

The Bottle Kiln is part gallery, part shop and part cafe. They serve some tasty food as well as tasty coffee and the baristas are clearly well trained, churning out some nice looking rosettas too. It was a joy to see care and attention behind the espresso machine :)

A lovely place and atmosphere, tasty coffee - definitely pop in if you're passing!

Coulda sworn that Maxine was a member here (Mark?), maybe she'll pop on and let us know who they use.
This week I are feeling sleepy!

Nice Gadders :). Er, I think she may be Dom, though I recently swapped my brain for a blueberrry muffin, and as tasty as it is the recall function is not as good as the brain used to be ...... it's a tad sticky for my liking too :P

They're supplied by Caffe Sienna in Rotherham, aren't they? That means, I think, Masterroast.

(Sienna's MD used to be a director of Rotherham United, whose form has since then not been of the best. At one point, he even gave my nephew a free transfer...!!!)

I went to try the coffee today, Sunday.

Maxime was not there - I was told she has Fridays and Sundays off.

I called in again; I was on the way to a golf match at Chevin.

I met Maxine and we had a good chat.

Delightful visit.

We tried the Bottle Kiln this weekend during a visit to Derby. I say "we" - someone had to take the kids to see a model train exhibition and someone had to walk in the countryside and try the coffee at the Bottle Kiln.

My wife said the cappuccino was good...

Thanks for the tip. Will drop in again sometime.

Hi all,

Was there on Friday - awesome little place with a really cool Japanese garden to do some caffeine-fuelled Zen meditation.

Their food's also cool - all home-cooked family recipes.

Coffee's pretty good too
