New York has an evolving scene but I wouldn't say it has the most places serving amazing coffee. Portland is definitely in contention - I was surprised and pleased at the level of not just Stumptown but their wholesale accounts too (very inspirational for me). If you get down to great cafes per capita then Oslo must surely be in with a shot?

Vancouver also had a whole heap of great and interesting places doing an amazing job.

For New York, I can count to about 12 places I'd be pleased to drink Coffee @(espresso or what have you).

That's the most for the cities I've been to so far. And hell, I do like the place - that probably influences the taste somewhat.

He's based in London, dude.

Re: per capita... I've never been to Norway, but I'd love to check it out. I'd imagine there's a few nordic folks on this forum quietly shaking their heads in dismay as we all assume the english speaking world's supremacy.

I reckon the city with the greatest number of good cafes is Melbourne.

I'd be inclined to agree. I'd also say that Los Angeles, in terms of a great coffee experience, will rate quite highly soon too.

I'd put Oslo up there too.

I think the distinction, again, needs to be made between a place that serves good espresso, and a good cafe. It's not the same thing.

I'm in with Styles on this distinction. A really good espresso is so seldom to get.

I'm a bit biased as far as Oslo goes...

I agree Tim, it's not often the same thing, but occasionally, it does all come together, and you end up in a great space, drinking a brilliant shot...

I think Kopenhagen also has a "fairly good" scene (trying to remove tongue from cheek).

No, seriously, there`s no other city with so many past WBC champs, am i not correct on this one. And some marvellous cafes and roasters there

From personal experience, and I have been to Copenhagen, anywhere in Italy does it for me.

Someone just had to try to bring Italy into it, eh?

England have managed to realise that, despite inventing both sports, it's rubbish at playing both cricket and rugby. When will the fixation between the genesis and propagation of espresso coffee and therein the Italian involvement finally end?

I'm so glad to be Mexican.
