Postby Aadje » Sat Oct 25, 2008 10:11 am

As every year a national newspaper conducted a national coffeetest. And the winners this year are the guys from Doppio in Groningen.

Number 2 is the Koffiesalon in Amsterdam, third Espresobar Coffeelovers in Maastricht, fourth Cafe de Blonde Pater in Nijmegen and fifth De Eenhoorn in Kampen.

Last years winners were 8th.

Doppio did a good thing! They are just open for one year now.

Barrend, who does the tests, must have been dazzled by the trendy atmosphere at Doppio. :(

I have tried the doppio at Doppio. It was nothing to write home about. And for a joint that was only open for a few months, the glasses (pavina) showed signs of either overuse in the dishwasher or simply poor cleaning. If you must use glass it has to shine.

I have also had the pleasure of trying the espresso at Coffeelovers in Maastricht. Avoid the main location, and find the small Coffeelovers espresso bar at te Uni. A perfect espresso.

As regards KvdW, I have had some awful coffee from KvdW machines. Like the coffee, the machine guarantees nothing. What you need to find is a coffee afficionado behind the machine!
Espresso: BFC TCI Lira.

Oh yeah me too, it indeed all depends on the barista and his level of compassion. But a decent machine and decent coffees to start with do help imho.

But the better the circumstances, the easier to scr*w them up.
