flat white 2?

Postby EspressoSquirrel » Mon Apr 14, 2008 10:20 pm

not sure if thats what they are calling it, but it opened today, i was expecting a bit more of a fanfare, but it was simply mentioned in conversation as i picked up my morning coffee.

i thought i would check it out, so i took a break from my computer screen to go and find it. Just like the original its not exactly in an obvious position, down the end of bateman street i have never really noticed, i don't think they are going for the passing old Compton street trade thankfully.

the place is larger than the first but still not huge, no big sofas or anything, just a wall lined with tables and little tiny chairs that look like they were nicked from a primary school. They haven't tried anything really different, it all seems very familiar. including of course the staff. Who seemed to be enjoying the fact they weren't in the middle of the mad rush that berwick street is usually in. in fact most of the customers seemed to be staff (i remember when the first one was like that)

but most importantly the bar is dominated by a single shiney black la marzocco FB80, which they tell me can e-mail its statistics such as water temperature etc... as soon as they work out how to do that.

the guy serving me said they were still tuning the machine and i'm pretty sure he chucked away the first shot he poured but what was served seemed good to me, maybe had a little more kick than usual, i'm still wired.

i'll probably still go to berwick street every morning though, partly because i have to walk less and partly because i will always meet someone i know there.

I believe they are calling it Flat White Milk Bar. I was in the day they installed the machine but haven't been since they opened. Might swing by later this week.

Very exciting news, that was kept a bit quiet!

Tristan, will you be taking your camera by chance? I'm sure everyone would love to see some pics of it :D

Great news, the soho coffee crawl just got even more wired!

So that's 2 Lineas, an FB80 and a Cyncra at F&W, all within spitting distance. Must go down for a drool fest...
