You have to check out Caffe D'Italia in Northampton, proper old-skool Italian style, no trendy third wave behaviour, just that Italian 'in the genes' way with the two group lever machine. Do excuse the etching if he's showing off though!

Oh, and you can come round and have a go with my gear if you want. :)

ok this is failing so far....

I am trying to gauge local support for a Midlands Barista Jam, I've already had some support from a couple of very prominent people.

Please show your support and aim to attend, and i can put this into full gear to get it done!

Are there many cafes around you locally you could drop in to and inquire with Chris? Or roasters that supply local businesses? Any Barista jam i've come across in the UK has been a pretty popular event, but its usually backed by a pretty big company (matthew algie/beyond the bean) for promotion and advertising. Where do you intend to host it?

well, I hope he's ok me saying this, but Hasbean Steve has offered to support us :)

It will be hosted in the big upstairs room in our cafe, we can cram about 25-30 people in, and we'll have some kind of spaz up there running off bottles. We have no other speciality shops in Lincoln, however Baz has shown some interest, and The Bean in notts, would love some home baristas as well to show up!!

The Bean in Beeston (5 minutes from my house) is a great little cafe with some great coffee and im glad they've shown interest. I'd been well up for it too as a home barista.

Late coming to this thread, not sure if it's still active.
But if this ever gets off the ground I'd try to join in (depending on work !).

I'm planning a trip up to soon for a quick visit to the Bean.
I used to work in Beeston but it's been a while since I've been to the Bean !

I'll let you know when I manage to get up there .... hopefully not too long.
Was hoping it would be next Monday ... however I've got an engineer coming to service my work Faema, so it depends what time he leaves.

Chris,

You are saying no specialist shops in Lincoln. I know I used to buy good quality single estate coffees from Imperial Teas near the top of Steep Hill.

I haven't ordered from there for a while - has he gone out of business?

Funny, I was in there today, but unfortunately I don't rate them that high. They are pre-dominately a tea shop, and their coffee doesn't get all the love it deserves. It's better than a lot of places certainly.

A lot of it tends to be reasonaly stale, but if you catch a fresh roast, in can be ok, some rough roasts sometimes.

Their tea's though... fantastic :)

I'm new to these pages but would love to meet up and compare notes with some peeps. I'm in Cheshire so not too far away at all.

What date did you have in mind?

I have no idea what goes on at these, and I am certainly no pro, but it sounds interesting!

Sorry i went a bit quiet about this, seem to have one too many things on the burner atm.

Looks like its going to be the 6th/7th of September. There's a lifestyle thing going on in Lincoln, and lots of places are exhibiing, so we have got two big stalls outside the shop, we're going to be putting a coffee machine on one, and basically have some cuppings, some laid back competitions, and generally just have fun, pull a lot of coffee, and show people the community and passion in the world of coffee.

I also hope to host an invitation only barista party in the evening.

To make it a little more tempting for people, we also have a guest house, with quite a few rooms, at discount prices for anyone attending.

Basically, still early stages, but watch this space!
