Which espresso bar looks great and why

Postby Dutchexpress » Thu Jul 19, 2007 8:47 pm

Hi,

Drinking a great espresso or cappuccino is the best.
But I'm interested where you drink your poison and how the place looks like.
Is it a trendy cafe or is it the nearby pub with a good atmosphere or...
Do you have pictures or a web address.

Thanks, Willem

This is the only place ill go to in Nottingham to get a decent shot. Modern, good atmosphere, and best of all a long bar made of marble next to their linea to sit back, enjoy cafe sounds and sip :)

Cafe Zambra (http://www.zambra.net/cafe.html)

Close to my office. They pull a very-very short double-ristretto for HK$20 (€1.90 / £1.25). I think the shot is 20-25ml at best. They usually have fresh beans. Still, I would say 1 out of 4 times you get a bad shot.

Interior is not very exciting, but in Asia ambiance is only an after-thought.

my room :) see the shrine topic for pics ;)

allthough I just returned from holiday in Canobio in Italy where I drunk some quite nice espressi after dinner at the boulevard viewing the sunset at the lago maggiore, accompanied by live music. Nothing really can cope with that . . .
Bits 'n' pieces . . .

This week I am mainly saying hello to old friends

One cafe where I live is half trendy flower shop and half cafe. Nice idea but the coffee could be better ...

No i haven't. I'm a local, but now live in sheffield where i'm supposedly at university. It opened up recently i believe. I've been to the one further down the old high street (world cafe?). Very nice set up, surprisingly classy for folkestone, but didn't think much of the coffee. My older brother and wife actually live in folkestone now and have a roaster (2kg i think) in my parents garage there(as well as an alpenrost). They sell the coffee at some of the local markets. Could see if i could put you in touch if you like... Feel free to PM me.

Did anyone catch the R4 Front Row interview with Manu Chao tonight? What a bloke. He still likes to busk in the streets of Barcelona - not for money, as he doesn't need it, but just for fun. One chap came up to him and said:

"Hey guy - you play good the music of Manu Chao".

Cracking.

We play Manu Chao AND our espresso has a crema on it. Mind you, we also play The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. You can't have everything, eh? ;)

I wasn't all that fussed about the Gusto I visited the other day while waiting for some friends to get into Temple Meads, or rather their coffee. Lovely decor and a nice cool place to sit and people watch on one of the the last warm days of the summer. The music was good as well, acid jazz with some Massive Attack and Portishead thrown in.

A shame about the coffee which looked far better than it tasted and wasn't a patch on the double I'd had in the Exeter branch of Boston Tea Party a few hours earlier.

Somewhere I'd go despite the coffee if I lived in that neck of the woods, though.
