Is it actually possible to find a good shot?

Vegas?

Postby Raf » Mon Jul 02, 2007 7:32 am

anyone ever had any decent coffee/meals in Las Vegas? I'm going gambling there (for the poker addicts: I've been offered a freeroll to the WSOP NLHE 10k Event 8) I do love my job sometimes).
This week I am eagerly anticipating the first god shots from my La Spaziale machine....

Hi Raf,

I got married there. But beside that you can eat well in almost any of the casinos. The steaks and seafood at the Luxor are very good. Prices are unusually reasonable since the real money rolls in from the suckers who gamble. 8)

As to coffee...errrrmm...I ordered a caffe macchiato and was told that "We don't do those." I said, "Do you make espresso?" "Of course!" "Good, do you steam milk for cappuccinos?" "Sure!" "OK, then please make me a double espresso and put a dab of milk froth on top of that." "Ummmmn, no, I can't do that." So I had a double espresso and it wasn't too bad. In fact, I had a couple of decent shots, but I can't tell you where. It's probably a gamble, but then
Three Francesconi (CMA) espresso machines - Rossi, San Marco, LaCimbali, Faema and 2 Mazzer Major grinders- CoffeeTech Maggionlino, Hottop, Alpenröst and HW Precision roasters.
I decided I needed a bit of a change so I roasted some Monsooned Malabar. That was a change!

How very American of them!
Next time order an Espresso and a Cappuccino....then spoon out some foam and throw it in the Espresso and then ask them "Was that so hard?"
....and then spoon out another dollop of foam and throw it in their face and ask the same question. Well, you'd probably get thrown out after the second part of that, but wouldn't it feel good?

I wonder if they were using a superauto and had no flexibility? ........ Otherwise, Niko's plan sounds good

From experience American coffee leaves a lot to be desired - particularly in Vegas.

St*rb*cks in the Venetian was bad even by their standards!

Best hotel buffet is supposed to be the Bellagio. Tried it and it wasn't bad at all!!

I rather suspect that he didn't know how to bill it. There's no button on the cash register for caffé macchiato. It was not a superauto.

BTW, I didn't let this bother me all that much as I had just gotten married in the morning.

That's just how it is in America, trust me. The problem is that people just don't know any better. We have the giant green monster with their stupidautos pulling thin rancid shots and pouring scalded sea-foamy milk into....eeeyuk! Then there's McDonald's, Burger King....don't get me started because I can easily get on a roll.
The places to really have coffee is on the West Coast mostly along with a few scattered places throughout the rest of the country, there are places that can pull shots with the best in the world but it's just far and few between.
What you guys have for not-so-good coffee in Europe is what Americans call gourmet.
Sorry....I had to vent.

I have a friend who lives in Vegas and he is visiting this week!! I will quiz him but I think he is more of a tea drinker! (Shudder!!)

When I visited him he asked me to bring PG Tips and Imperial Leather soap.

It was he who recommended the buffet at the Bellagio.

Hi guys, back already. No cashing in, I'm afraid: I went out somewhere in level V or VI (after twelve hours of hanging on for dear life). Pocket queens busted by pocket eights (for the non poker players out there: I was a 4:1 favorite with those queens, so bad beat). I stayed at the Wynn, which is one hell of a nice hotel. The espresso was okay, although it was extracted from a superauto.
This week I am eagerly anticipating the first god shots from my La Spaziale machine....

Oh, and the buffet at the Wynn is definitely the best in Vegas. The Rio must be one of the worst (in a greasy, have-to-run-to-nearest-restroom way!).

The poker-craze hasn't hit Asia/Macau yet. Although casino gaming revenue is already higher in Macau than in Vegas ($35+ billion)!
