Paddington station

Is it actually possible to find a good shot?

Paddington station

Postby maurice » Sun Apr 18, 2004 12:59 am

Bought an espresso at a Bagel place on Paddington station on Friday.

They asked me if I wanted a double. I said, no a single please. Reply "Well we only do doubles"!

But the espresso itself was surpringly good, naturally sweet, even though I had been expecting the worst. I was sorry when it was finished!

This could have been a fluke, or maybe I was unusually desperate that morning. But if anyone wants to try their luck, its on the main concourse, just before the entrance to platforms 1 and 2. Its called "Bagel" something, possibly "Bagel Express"

That place? Really?

Normally I'm at the other end of the station - I commute into Paddington every working day but I deliberately take the Hammersmith & City tube because it comes out at the suburban station and then I'm much closer to the part of my InterCity train that I want to get on.

I'll have to take a detour one evening (I'm never early enough in the morning to have the time to spare!).

<<That place? Really?>>

Yes, I've avoided it myself until now, since it seems so unpromising. And I can't quite believe I got a worthwhile cup out of them. I only go to Paddington once or twice a month myself, but in the interests of science we should check whether its repeatable!

And I tried to avoid "Bagel" and went for Costa Coffee instead, despite knowing how crap they are. I should be more adventurous with trying espresso shops... it is just that I have been put off by so many so-called "espresso" shops.

Is that "Oi! Bagel"? If it is...it's owned by a guy named Steven King. Not very scarry really, although if it's them it's robotic caffeine and l would avoid the milky drinks!!
