Breako, my BP is starting to rise. I may be addled, but you still haven't cleared this up at all.

And Steve, thanks for your help, but I still don't have any idea what he meant. If he had Vietnamese robusta in his stash why did he call it Malabar robusta?

Breako, what did you mean and what did you use? Is the robusta really an Indian robusta? If so, what did you mean by those other references to Indonesia and Vietnamese? Image

If you don't straighten this up soon I may just have to come down there and try it out for myself! Image

I decided I needed a bit of a change so I roasted some Monsooned Malabar. That was a change!

Bruce,

I took it Breako used some Monsooned Malabar robusta in his blend though he at first had meant to take Flores robusta.

Steve offered some MM-robusta every now and then, if I'm not mistaken I should still have a kilo or two in my stash. If you're really interested in reproducing such a blend I could send you some...

Thanks kindly Walter! I appreciate the offer and may well take you up on it. Let's wait and see first what Mr. Breakman has to say and I'll get back to you. :D

OK Bruce.... :P

I have 2 lots of Robusta - 1 Bag of Monsooned Malabar Robusta from India - 1 Partial Bag of Indonesian Premium Flores Robusta.

I thought I had added the flores to the blend and then realised tha it was the Malabar Robusta.
It was a case of not reading the bag first.

I do hope this clears the matter up for you old chap. I off my sincre apologies for creating some confusion. I am going to go and learn how to make myself understood better now. ;)

Bruce, if you do give it a go I would be really really interested to know what your findings are please. BTW, the stand is now packaged :D

Oh and shipped 1-3 weeks mate :D

Just on an aside, just tried this in a cap and it gives a very nice mellow cup, with a hint of background tobbacco tastes and burt wood type things going on there

Sounds good! I went to school with a guy named Burt Wood...really! Anyway, this topic is really beginning to interest me, so I think I'll contact Walter and try to get some of that Monsooned Vietnamese Flores Malabar robusta. :P

LOL

I think people are generally afraid of Robusta, especially something like this one. Glad I could have a potential convert to Aged Robusta :D

Burt Wood....LOL...please excuse my typos

Yeah, Burt was a nice guy, played tenor sax and went on to become a cabinet maker, specialising in coffins, of all things. The last time I saw him was in 1965 when we had a cup of coffee together in Wimpys in Chicago, bringing this right back on topic. 8)

Been playing with this since the original post...

AFter cleaning the Gene and the now improved temps/times I roast 200g of 50% Yirg & 50% Brazillian to a med roast.

I then took 75g of Java and 25g of MM Robusta to a darker roast just into 2C.

Lovely....the Yirg stands out with some very nice cirus/acidic tones with a lot of floral going on. The Brazillian gives a nice chocolaty base with a nice mellowness. The Java add some ral body and a heavy spiciness, but this is balanced by the Yirg. The Robusta just add an extra dimension of Eath tones and spices...cumin comes to mind actually.

A very pleasing blends and one I will keep using I think.
