Old Brown Kalossi (aka Celebes/Sulawesi)

Postby Ian » Wed Aug 01, 2007 2:45 pm

A while back I had a batch of green Old Brown Kalossi (if that's not an oxymoron) which was really excellent. The old memory is a bit dodgy nowadays but I think it came from H&V?

Anyway, I haven't seen any on sale anywhere recently. Can you help? I'm willing to import a reasonable quantity from anywhere if necessary. Also be willing to split a delivery if anyone else is interested.

Cheers

Ian

Sorry Zapty didn't mean to be sharp, hope it didn't read as if I was being rude, certainly not the aim.

That's not the way I took it to be Steve but in any case, I stand corrected....

It made it a real big cup, very jute like after taste, not something you find everyday, and the mouthfel was fantastic (remember it was a long time ago and at my age retention of thoughts is tough).

I remember it doing rather well in some competition fine foods or something like that. I remember it being very popular when we had the coffee shop in the filter machine.

Talking about retention and stuff ... zou had a coffee shop in a filter machine? :o

Aadje, Aging is basically that - letting the coffee age for a while (a year or more?) before shipping. To some coffees this can bring something, to most not. How long do they age old brown java for example? I think with the monsooned malabar (with which monsooning also is an aging process) takes about three months if I remember correctly ...
Lukas

This week I like my coffee luke-warm.

*cough cough* The above grammatical confusion was caused by the lack of commas surrounding the phrase "when we had the coffee shop"

Hi Steve, yes it was a while ago but I didn't think it was that long - how time flies eh? Perhaps I had a quantity in my stash which kept me going for a while?

Anyway, perhaps somone ought to take a trip out to Indonesia to source some good stuff. Hint hint ;)

Hi Aadje, fresh Kalossi is one of my favourite varieties but the aged is noticeably different; smooth, deep, big mouthfeel, liquorice/chocolate/twigs - can you tell I'm not much good with adjectives?

If you see any for sale, can you let me know straight away please;)
