New Consumer TV short on coffee tasting

Postby kingseven » Fri Jul 20, 2007 7:10 pm

A little while ago I was asked to go up to London to take part in a blind tasting of some supermarket branded coffees.

Along with the presenter and Thierry who works for TWIN (who source for Cafe Direct) we cupped 6 coffees whilst talking about coffee tasting and also others talking about Fairtrade and Organic coffee. They were aware I was not much of a fan of FT or other certifications (I am more interested in paying what a coffee is worth)

Initially we were asked to score each of the coffees, but I didn't want to (as nothing really ranked higher than a 2 out 5!) so we put them in order of preference.
It was fun I suppose, even though none of the coffees were great. Feel free to laugh away at me and my ramblings. (The T-shirt says "God Save the Barista")

I am not sure how I rank as an award winning coffee taster, and the description of "coffee expert" made me and others laugh quite a lot.
Enjoy!

I enjoyed watching that and was dead inpressed that you both correctly identified the coffees given that they were all pre-ground. Legendary instructions as to how to cup too Jim if I may say so, she nearly choked  :D

I felt bad for laughing so much when her supposed sharp slurp turned out to be a slow, gurgling sip.

She looked too embarrassed to spit. I doubt she noticed your belly laugh

Hehe :D

Nice one Jim, great little video there - it seems so effortless for you to be right on the money talking about coffee :)

Gosh there were a fair few grimaces at that cupping table tho! :P
