Gautamalan Vivlano

Boy oh boy what a treat from Rocket....

Took pot luck and asked them to surprise me. This was from the CoE 2006 lots.

OK so what did it give me...taken to a medium roast the beans looked a bit mottled, however I pulled a shot and my goodness!

This was what I can only describe as the most challenging espresso I have ever had. The aroma was reminiscent of caramalised brown suger and the flavour was an intense sharp friut full of bright berry type flavours and a big hit of floral. It is not what I would descxribe as a regular coffee, in fact it is pretty darn weird. However, if you can get hold of any and you like a wild coffee this is the one. It didn't give a full mouthfeel as some, but was incredibly smooth to drink.

I am now a converted to only drinking SO's now...far more fun and interesting than blends in my contentious opinion guys, but that is another thread eh! :P

That makes me miss the Brazil Fazenda Cachoera Bourbon. A fantastic SO for espresso. I haven't found a retailer in Asia.

Is it challenging to pull as well Matty or just in terms of flavour? sounds really great :D

We need to get some over to you Eward .... surely some greens by sea would work out okay?

Easy to pull a shot of it, different again this morning, the floral tones are very evident now and there is a sharpness that I just cannot place, it is not acidic just nicely shrp.It is almost like a Kenyan, but with the added chocolate tones of Central America. It is a very very interesting bean..

Greens by sea are fine in regards to shipping. I don't really know the rules for HK, but here, as long as they are commercially available you can send them over.

Malaysia is not too far away in Asian terms (Singapore is considered to be near HK... withing 4 hour flying distance!)

Where in Malaysia, Steve? You can PM me if you prefer. :)

Apparently green beans are considered processed agricultural goods. Fresh fruits, vegetables and plant products are prohibited without a special certificate.
