Blends from this interesting stash/espresso blends.....

Postby coffee_joe » Sun Feb 04, 2007 8:58 am

Ok so I have the following greens of which I've made a few pre & post espresso blends, being rather nice, but has anyone used the few OTHERS beans to blend with the above or other mixes?? ....

I'm looking for blends with either... body, sweetness, texture for cappuccinos & some with perhaps more sweetness than depth for espresso etc... What have you guys come up with?

Brazil Fazenda Cachoeira Bourbon
El Salvador Finca La Fany Bourbon
Ethiopian Yirgacheffe
Indian Monsoon Malabar
Guatemala El Bosque Amatitlan Bourbon
Green Celebes Toraja Kalosi

T H E O T H E R S ???

Sulawesi??
Sumatra Lingtong.... is this like the Kalosi?
Indian Peaberry....???
Longberry Harrar???
Yemen??
various Gaggia TD, Gaggia MDF, Mazzer Super Jolly, Hot-top 240v

Harrar is very very nice as an SO and I love it in a blend as well (in small amounts or it will overpower the other coffees imho).
India Peaberry is nice in a blend imo (adds that little bit of tobacco/spices) but I don't like it as an SO.
Yemen is very lovely in a blend with Old Brown Java (mocha-java blend). Beany gave me a batch of it and man it was great.
Veni, Vidi, Imbibi Coffea !

Lintong has a similar flavour profile to Kalosi in that is is a big bodied coffee, but is more dark and earthy.
A mix of Cachoera, Lintong and Harrar can be nice. Try swapping the Harrar for Yirg. How about Cach, Kalosi and Yemen?

I've been pleased with a blend of Fazenda Cachoeira (40%), Monsoon (40%) and Yirg. If you make it 30% each of Fazenda, Monsoon and Yirg and then 10% Sumatran Lintong you should have something interesting too.
I wish I were what I was when I wished I were what I am.

The only thing keeping me going is the fact that I have just booked two weeks in Jamaica in April, flying first class and staying in two boutique hotels first on the cliffs above Pristine Cove and then right on the beach in Negril.
I thoroughly recommend it as a way of coping with your grief Cakey! Every time I think I'm gonna break down I start humming the old reggae classic: "From a little cottage in Negril" 8)

It was getting to go round in circles though, I'm sure I posted the same blends several times
I'm still struggling to find time for much adventurous blending, wedding last year, plus recording a band demo which became an album, so lots of time on artwork, mastering etc. Now we are getting the house up together to sell and get something bigger (small 2-bed one too small for all the coffee gear, and the 5 guitars, amps etc!).
It is mostly pre-blends (Toba Sulawesi at the moment) or SOs (Brazil Canario this week).

I'll try some more out soon, I have some beans I have been meaning to try, like the dry procesed Yirgacheffe I have, which I reckon could go nicely in a blend.

I decided I needed a bit of a change so I roasted some Monsooned Malabar. That was a change!
