Celebes Toraja Kalosi

Postby Gadders » Mon Nov 06, 2006 10:43 pm

How do folks find this bean?

I reckon i just nailed an extraction - lovely dark crema, thick and gloppy all the way through. However, there always seems to be a harsh edge to it - or perhaps thats just a wrong temperature :P

Love it, there's always a bag or so to be found in my stash. It's worth experimenting with roast levels and brew temperatures though.

Good on its own or blended with something brighter.

BTW Celebes is now called Sulawesi ;)

For good orders sake:
Indonesia is the origin
Sulawesi/Celebes is the island
Kalossi/Kalosi is the city/village in the are where the coffee is grown
Toraja are the native people living in the area

From playing with it as an SO shot I recall it having some crazy flavours, some sweetness that you could squeeze out at slightly higher temps and tonnes of body. A bit weird, but quite nice.

One of alltime favs especialy considering the cost . I like in blends Or delicious for press pot especially with higher temp but as a S/O via espresso it takes a lot of work to nail it for my liking, then again I am a lazy so and so !

hmm

Postby Chrisweaver » Sun Oct 28, 2007 3:05 pm

after receiving a bag on holiday, i didnt get to drink it for just over two weeks, so its possibly a little stale, but I have to say, through the s3 at the coffee shop, its very harsh and earthy, not quite my cup of tea, well coffee.... but anyways, at some point illget another bag and dry and drink it fresh and give a proper opinion of it!

Postby Chrisweaver » Mon Oct 29, 2007 7:45 pm

ha haa cheers steve, I would like to try it again, it arrived two days after I went on a 2 week holiday, and it was pre-ground, so it may not have been that fresh!! I keep meaning to email you regarding my gift order with hasbean, but I shall do that now!! I've got it down as pre-ground, but I want them as beans, but I shall email the hasbean address :)

Tried your hasbean blend yesterday... it was great thanks!! and the cup of excellence blend which was a touch delicate for me.
