As promised elsewhere, here a brief summary of a truly revelatory (to me at least) coffee experience: the Martella "maximum class" roast (Roman), which I had out of a 3-group lever machine earlier today.
very short version: "what the ...?! yum!"
not-quite-so-short version: very big, earth & mushroom, followed by a good dose of malt, and a serious whomp of chocolate, topped with a few cherries; very little bitterness.
... now I just have to get there with my own machine ... at least the bar also sells the beans
