Got Balls!?

Postby lukas » Wed Jul 19, 2006 8:49 pm

Ha! I *finally* got the nerves to stand the sound of 2nd crack for longer than a few seconds! Yeeeeha! And finally have the routine required to achieve a fine, even roast! Yeeeeha! So Steve, after 2 kilos of your Yrg, I just hat a cup of french press of, erm, 20 minute old coffee, and a cup of espresso, of, erm, 2hr old coffee thereafter. And it's already waaaaaaaayyyy better than my previous tries before! Each and every roast I did with the Yrg ended up being too light becaus I lost my nerves! And they all were nearly the same grade too light! Bummer!

But this time I got it right, and roast time was pretty exactly 15 minutes ... Man, I'm happy!
But out of Yrgacheffe soon ;(

:D :D: D

It looks like this one:

it's old (about 100 years), made of heavy iron and I found out that I need to crank about 2 times/second to get an even roast. And hell, it's fun! :)

Great stuff Lucas. It's great that you have an antique roaster. Think of all the history involved with it and the people that have used it. Wow, mind blowing :D

Yes, it really is. I bought it off from ebay and the seller told me that his grandma got it as a wedding present back in around 1910 ... I can't even imagine that ...

I'm still looking for one of those .... everytime I find one, it's either rusted away, painted or too expensive ;)

There are always at least 5 of these available on ebay.de. Just searchfor "Kaffeeroester." They usually go for little money. I just found something interesting there while looking. See the picture. The article number is 260010535286 if anyone wants to look at more pictures.
