RoAsting Santos?

Postby GeorgeW » Mon Mar 27, 2006 10:47 am

Can anyone help by giving me some info on roasting times for a Brazilian Santos? I'm sure I messed it up last time. I imagine it should be pretty dark.

Thanks.

Santos works for differents roastings quite well, it is a coffee companies usually use for filling up their blends... if u want it for single origin drinking, try better brazil bourbon, or any brazilian coffee with the name bahia inside (it is the sign for washed coffee from brazil)

George try www.coffeeinfo.co.uk, it's Steves new site and has the Tasting notes/Roast levels etc.
Personally I find Brazillians on the whole are good taken just into the first few pops of second, anymore and they lose the edge.

Just on the start of the second crack is best for me as well! :-)

Brazil Santos beans don't like darker roasts usually. Santos is a generic coffee. I had Santos which was crap and Santos that was very good...

Try the boubon, Dattera, Ipanema...

Thanks lads, I have to say that up to now I haven't been impressed but will try it with shorter roasting times.

Hi George,
Out if interest how long are you taking the Daterra? I'm taking it just into 2nd crack, say 10secs, but well before any oils appear.

Same with me Steve..just into second crack with no oils and the appearance is before the city roast stage. Great stuff. After a few days there may be just some tiny spots of oil but it only lasts about a week before I roast again.
