Postby BazBean » Sun Jan 29, 2006 8:06 pm

After filling the kitchen for a month or so with smoke from S/O beans since my Hottop arrived i decided to get adventerous and have a go at Blending (well throw a few beans together)

Brasilian Base.
Monsoon Malabar.
Ethiopian Mocha.

i might be selling myself one here but tastes pretty darn good. but too much fun regardless

have a taste.!!!

Ohhh Baz can you post me a sample...that looks nice!!!

Just tried my first blend today as well with the following:

Yirgacheffe
Brazil Cachoera
Celebes Kalosi
Columbian La Manuela
Guatemala Santa Barbara

and not forgetting Monsooned Robusta

I blended 1oz of each and 1/2 oz of Monsoon Robusta, tried it in the french press and I was ever so impressed!!! The monsooned certainly gives it an earthy boost!!!! Monsoon taken quite dark and the rest just after 1st crack.

Single Origin....Not a blend of different beans from around the world all thrown into one pot. Normally from one area in a certain country or even a single estate, very much like wine to be honest.

Matt

OK so I was pipped to the post by Baz, still confirms we know what we are going on about.....

Yes, blending is half the fun in roasting your own. Friends and family may call me crazy to go through the effort of roasting and blending my own instead of buying the stale off the shelf beans but they love to drink my coffee.
Especially when I fire up my RCM, it has become quite a ceremony using that thing.
Can't wait to start roasting with the Nestor Martin.
Bezzera B3000A, Giotto Premium, several Cona's, several Balance Brewers, Atomic, Milano etc,
Aristarco, Rancilio MD 40, Ditting and Eureka MCI grinders, several antique roasters, a mini500/800N propane/electric Taiwanese roaster, greens all over the place...and some other unmentionables that have not been mentioned......
