I noticed this too - I couldn't help wondering if it was tippex that was bad for you, rather than coffee minus the caffeine!

Hi Adrian,
how does Swiss water process -decaffenaited coffee differ from standard coffee in your opinion?

Well I am not sure I am qualified to make a very accurate comparison however;

Visually the beans look rather matt compared to non-decaf.

Taste is definately 'thinner' than regular espresso. I have tasted decaf that is like cardboard - all I can say is that our is not like this. To me there is more taste at the front of the mouth, somewhat akin to coffee with higher acidity. Also a slightly longer aftertaste. I think this is caused by a lack of 'middle' flavours.

In the espresso machine I have given people decafs and they have not been able to tell the difference UNLESS they also have a regular to compare directly.

Espresso using our beans have a good crema, although less than our regular. Also the crema appears to be darker in colour.

Also I have noticed that the beans 'go off' faster than regular when exposed to air.

Here is a quick pic of a recently poured decaf cup. Around 2 minutes after pour (couldn't find the camera)

Doesn't look too bad :lol:

Heh, I agree - nothing wrong with decaf coffee simply because it's decaf. Like any other coffee, it depends on the bean in question. (And I happen to be a BIG fan of Fazenda Jaceranda).

The reason I brought the Beeb article up was not to have my "anti-decaf" moment. I just thought it was interesting that people tend to just assume that it must be healthier if it's decaf. It would seem that this is not the case. I just thought that was worth noting (with all due respect to the Swiss-Water people, of course :wink: )
