Third blend

I just keep on posting my blends here, boring you guys to death.

Boxing Day in the evening I did the following:
Colombia (HV);
Malabar (HV) + Java Blawan (HB);
Harrar (HV) + Indian Robusta (HV).
33:17:17:23:10

Two odd things in my blend:
1) Java Blawan: I understand Java is not common for espresso;
2) Quite a dark and heavy blend again: I realised that I do not really have any bright beans.

I am finishing off my old stock first now, before moving on to the beans I bought from Steve the other day: Panama La Torcaza, Bolivian, Indian Mysore and Brazil Bourbon.

Steve, how would you use the La Torcaza and the Mysore?

What roast did you use for the Harrar? I would expect some acidity (high notes) if you took it just to the cusp of 2nd, which is where I'd take it.

I took all three batches to the start of 2nd crack, ie the moment I hear one bean cracking I stopped the roast.

I just did my first pull and it is much brighter indeed. Quite nice. Should I attribute that to the Harrar or the Java Blawan? I like this blend best so far, unfortunately I can still taste the limitations of the IMEX.

First tests with I-roast are a bit mixed too, from what I heard. HT may come back in the picture again.

Panama

Great in espresso (although not in my blend) simular notes to celebes mixed with a little costa rican. Well worth adding to espresso blends. Stands well on its own in the filter but havent really experiamented with this one too much

Indian mysore. Havent done alot with this at all I've only cup batch roasted it. I thought it was different. Malabar with out the mustyness. But thats what I was expecting so a second visit would be needed to come up with anything better

OK, I will do a new roast tonight. Should I do Costa Rica Riserva Presidente or Costa Rica Meseta Tarrazu. Yes, these are old beans from our 'mate' Charlie Massey! Hahaha.
