Mexican coffee

Postby simonp » Thu Sep 29, 2005 12:56 pm

Whilst we were away for a few days I took the caffetiere and have been drinking some Mexican Oaxaca Pluma -Tres Oros (Sweet Marias). This was roasted in the Hottop and taken to about 5 snaps of 2nd crack.

The aroma from the roasted beans after a few days was wonderfull! a real roasted nut aroma. The taste was just as good, caramel and nuts in abundance, and maybe just a hint of really dark chocolate. This stuff quite suited that slightly smokey taste I find you get with the slightly murky brew you get with a caffetiere. It went particularly well at breakfast with a home cooked english breakfast 8) .

I can see why this is sometimes used in place of a Brazil coffee as an espresso base, as it is similar in some ways (caramel and nuts) to the Cachoera, but with a stronger body. I suspect this would suit milk drinks well.

Definitely worth a go for a change.
