Been at that blending again

So as not to dissapoint all my avid readers (both of them :lol: ), the latest blend experiments.

A variation on the last one.

Roast 1:
250g Brazilian Cachoera (Hasbean).
Roasted 20s into 2nd crack. Once again there was little gap between the end of 1st and the start of 2nd, abouy 20s.

Roast 2:
100g Ugandan Bugisu (Sweet Marias)
100g Celebs/Sulawesi Torja (Hasbean)
50g Etheopian Yirgacheffe (Hasbean)
Roasted about 20s into 2nd crack. Interestingly, here, with a blend of beans, there was a well defined gap between the cracks, about 1 minute.

This is similar to my last blend, but the Celebes has replaced the Lintong for a subtler sweeter body, and the Yirg has replced the Harar to add a little more highlight acidity. I'm hoping the changes will give a slightly less hevy handed cup (not that I dislike the other one, quite the opposite), as I fancied something different.
3 days rest is up today, so I will be trying it later, and will report back.

Simon do you find the Kalosi needs lots of heat, I know the yirg is a good companion as that does too, not sure about the Ugandan. Did you have to plus to get it 2nd?

Yes I did have to go 1 plus to get to 2nd crack. The Ugandan gives it's chocolate taste at a darker roast so was fine to mix with the others. I also find that Lintong takes a LOT of heat, and the Ugandan roasted well with this, so I guess it likes a lot of heat too.

I tried it yesterday and it was nice. Definitely a bit less in your face, ans smoother, but with added spice and that Yirg lift, I think maybe a bit more than 10% Yirg would be better. I've been mixing 50/50 with the 2 roasts, but I might try a higher proportion of roast 2.

I've been mixing 9g of the Cach and 11g of the 2nd roast, and I think I prefer this, there is a little more life, and the Yirg is lees lost. This makes a nice ristretto, where the highlights are accentuated, but it does not get too powerfull.

This one reminds me of why I used Cach and Kalosi together in a lot of previous blends, they just work so well together, and give a lovely dense crema.

In a cappa you can really taste the caramel from the Cach, but I think I preferred the stronger taste of the previous blend with the milk.

Yeah, the9g Cach 11g Roast 2 is definitely the way to go. Had a damned fine ristretto with that this evening, such dnse creamy crema, it felt a bit like cappuccino microfoam, mmm.
That reminds me, we need a "yummy" emoticon!
