So who is roasting and on what?

Postby CakeBoy » Sun Jun 14, 2015 7:59 am

With the recent talk of roasting gadgetry, motoman with his Huky 500 arriving this week, the new Behmors coming before Christmas and the merits or otherwise of simple pan roasting, I began wondering how many here are roasting these days and what everyone is using now to do so. There is certainly a fair bit of choice in terms if hardware about. So come on then, what's roasting your coffee (and I don't mean the ginger one :D)? Photos would be nice too. Why not show everyone your roastery!

I'll start, we have the Pinhalense sample roaster and a rather decrepit early Gene Cafe, but we are currently enjoying subscription coffees, so both are resting! :)

I am still roasting on my two trusty computer controlled Hottops. They are both seven years old but are still going strong 8) The RoastLogger thread contains loads of photos of them set up with various devices for temperature input and control so I won’t bore you with them here.

Well as I said in the Pan Roasting thread I'm currently on the look out for a cheap home roaster. I will be interested to see what others use.

I'm using a Gene Cafe, I used to have to have it modded with an Arduino board, but I've restored it back to normal. I'm not much of an electrician.

Hello all,
Back in Australia we're roasting on an old UG15, not too many modifications, just some safety stuff and a variable gas valve.

Hey Steve, yes it's been a while since posts, but I've checked in every now and again. Great to see TMC with a little facelift!

Guess I better polish my Gene Cafe a little more before I take a photo...

I know what you mean, grib. Difficult for us humble home roasters to compete with the mighty UG15 8) I expect that will prompt Steve to give us at least one photo of his favourite roaster
