Roasters Guild

Postby Jasonscheltus » Sun Jun 07, 2009 5:04 pm

Is anyone here a member of the Roasters Guild? Does anyone know anyone who (I might know) is a member of the Roasters Guild?

To become a member you need to have references from two existing members "in good standing". Reminds me of a country golf club application... But I'd still like to join.

Would that make you a toester rather than a roaster?
Three Francesconi (CMA) espresso machines - Rossi, San Marco, LaCimbali, Faema and 2 Mazzer Major grinders- CoffeeTech Maggionlino, Hottop, Alpenröst and HW Precision roasters.
I decided I needed a bit of a change so I roasted some Monsooned Malabar. That was a change!

Wow.

After being so disappointed with the SCAA roasting courses (Advanced Craft) I spoke to Watts, and he said that all the in-depth discussion on roasting was done in the RG. I figured it was worth joining for a year to see if he was talking shit or not.

It's only $100 to join, and my toes are worth more than that!

I guess you know my situation, what would you recommend Steve?

I'm thinking more SCAE and more specifically the UK chapters branch, I've seen who goes to these meetings and trips, and its not my idea of fun or of pushing my craft in any direction I'd want to.

For $100 in I wouldn't let my disappointment of local issues put you off, I too have heard great things from Mr Watts about the organisation of the RG state side, I've also read articles from Terry from Ambex with a positive slant. It could be great stuff and a great chance for someone to come tell the world what membership brings.

I want to learn EVEEERYTHING!! (which i dont already know.which is alot!)
The first one i want to do is custom single origin roasting or something to that effect by Filip Akerblom but dont know if it will work timing wise for me .
The second is Advanced roasting by Daniela Nowitzki and Marcel Knitter , both who i've never heard of (which doesnt mean alot )
There are many more but trying to be realistic with my time and money, roasting training is not something that pops up everyday so i'm keen to learn something from someone .
