Tisri - as I said to Simon recently, if you have a little patience Sweet Maria's is a *good* choice even for European buyers - just make sure you stick to surface shipping and the cost is entirely reasonable.

Matt (and everyone else who hasn't heard this). My understanding is that Anita (aka Monmouth Coffee) wants out of the greens market. Several people have told me that they're now pricing their green to discourage purchase. Nice lady, good roasted but go elsewhere for green. A big shame especially as the (really nice) people in their Covent Garden shop were giving out the exact opposite message to me 18 months ago. Ah well.

That sounds very interesting Matt. Anything you can mention in public?

American suppliers aren't necessarily a problem as I have family in the US and can always ship via them if needs be. It's just that unless I'm buying a reasonable amount the shipping costs are disproportionate. It doesn't help that the aunt who normally does this kind of thing doesn't understand that green beans can wait and tends to ship absolutely everything by air mail, even when I tell her to use surface (she's 70-something and daft as a brush, but she's got a heart of pure gold and both I and Mrs tisri are very fond of her)

I've written some tasting notes for Monsoon - I'll email it in as soon as it's in electronic format, namely more precise than the scribbled ramblings I wrote as I tasted it for the first time yesterday. This evening what did I discover? Monsoon Malabar available from my local Whittards!
I wish I were what I was when I wished I were what I am.

Not that I think they were that inprecise, but still, I am looking forward to it.
Glad to hear that you liked them, anyway! I think they´re great but haven´t suceeded in doing a good blend with them. Thanks for the Mysore tip, mattmills!

When I first tasted them I struggled to think of anything that would blend well with them. I'm going to try the mysore with the next batch of them - by the time I get hold of mysore and roast it I'll have finished the monsoon!

Hey Matt did you nick that link from Simon's post, above? And I don't think he's the only guy online with a good range.

Seriously though Peter James is a good guy and he sells good coffee, although his main business is in the cafe and restaurant sector I think, rather than small retail stuff. Nonetheless he seems happy to sell small quantities to end users. Above all, he's an enthusiast like the rest of us.

Shame he doesn't seem to have time to stop by and talk to us any more.

Malabar Monsoon is one of my favourites.
I loose about 20% of weight in my popcorn-machine and it produces a lot of chaff.
But with about 10% of Yemen Mocca Matari added, to add some acid, its awesome.
A darker roast, stopped just when/short before oil is seeping, is giving it the taste I like.
