My New Toy :)

Postby Steve » Mon Aug 30, 2004 6:59 pm

I thought I would post up some pictures of my new toy. I picked it up yesterday and although not in the bets of condition, a great bargain. It’s a Probat 8oz`sample roaster. Around 25 years old. I have done a couple of roasts today in it and it works a treat.

It was my wedding anniversary yesterday for me and Mrs Eeffoc and what better present for her. She didn’t quite see it that way, but I’m sure she will come around. All I’ve got to do now is explain to my accountant why I need an imex, a precision, a hottop and a Probat for sample roasting :)

So what is the reason then or couldn't you resist a bargain?

What's the difference between roasting with the Hottop and this?

you can install your own profile is the only reason. Its heat on with the button heat off but drum still turning, and all with thre temp gauge. The hottop is more set up for the roasted end, where I have a very definate opinion on cupping roasts.

And its another toy to play with :) and I love my toys

Ah, if only I had room for some toys like these  I had trouble finding somewhere to stash the popcorn machine away for a dinner party at the weekend.
BTW did you like the blend?

Hello from Baden Baden.

Erm Steve, it must be all the German booze but I haven't got my head round that. Could you explain that again please? :D

I'll draw you a picture when you get back :)

The Hottop is set up to roast a bean as you would want at the end stage (i.e ready to drink). Without a variac then you have minimal control over the roast profile(as good as its profile is).

I have very definate ideas about cupping roasts and what I want, and the new machine will allow me to play with this a little.

Dont get me wrong if I want something for non cupping roast then the hottop will win every time (a lot quicker too in the warm up stage).

Clear as mud now :)
