Behmor 1600: first look

Postby Raf » Thu May 15, 2008 3:12 pm

This morning a package arrived at my door, containing a bright red Behmor 1600, 240V, kindly loaned to me by Steve from HasBean for testing purposes. I can't say too much (sorry, promised Steve that I wouldn't go too much into detail), but the first run was promising. It's almost plug and play, that easy. Just dumped 250 grams of Cup of Excellence in it, pressed "Program 1" and 20 minutes later I had roasted coffee... 8) Me likes. Steve will have to pry this machine from my cold, dead fingers I'm afraid...

*disclaimer: I'm not entirely unbiased about this machine. I have mailed extensively about it with its inventor since I heard about it some four or five years ago, and have eagerly been awaiting its landing on European shores.
This week I am eagerly anticipating the first god shots from my La Spaziale machine....

This is going to be very interesting Raf. I'm looking forward to what you think about this machine.

British racing green I hope!
Feel free to send it my way if you want someone to review the 240v

Joking aside, I just thought, have you compared both machines Steve? Is there still a need for a 230v and 240v machines? Historically this has been an issue, and I'd be keen to see whether any progress has been made as there can be huge variations in line voltage just within the UK. Anybody know whether the US gets the same kinda variation?

Raf has been instrumental in us talking to Joe so I thought I'd give him first look then grab it back for the side by side comparisons. Lots going on at the moment so time for testing two machines is difficult.

I may be after a home roaster who has some time to put it through its paces once I've had a play for maybe a week, but someone who is good, so that rules you out Dom :)

Well if you sent me something decent to roast in it, rather than the usual sticks and stones :P

Seriously though, at the moment the main review on the machine is Tom's at SM. It would be interesting to see what you and other people think compared to Tom's comments. I think a lot of us have high hopes for this machine.

Interesting (and very favorable) review by Tom there. I don't think I'll be able to add much.

Would be good to get a european review, I imagine the 230v model could behave quite differently to the 110v version.

Its not so easy to get one of these type of things to market in the EU CE testing has proven challenging if not a little picky.
