Darkish roast from a low Hottop setting

Postby Bertie_Doe » Fri May 09, 2008 9:07 pm

I think this guy is from the USA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-numhGRuyDg and he's using Setting 2 and yet seems to be getting the same degree of roast that I'm getting from 6 or 7?

He may be using the max 3 x 20 secs, but this would only add a minute to the roast and he did press the abort button, rather than auto-dump?? Maybe the 110v supply with higher amps gives more oomph. At least he put on a brave face after drinking the latte :)

Bertie

Edit : just spotted the title "Making coffee in Malaysia" Anyone know what the supply is?

Thanks Steve. I also noticed he doesn't bother with the heat guards either. Real macho just like me

LOL Steve :D

I've never used them either.

This is probably very old news these days, (and perhaps getting a bit OT) but I stumbled across these pics the other day of the heat guards being used to hold some insulation on the Hottop's drum.

Probably has all sorts of potential to cause more issues than it solves (and maybe invalidate the warranty), but it struck me as a way to help the hottop out a bit, either in colder conditions, or, for the HT programmable, to increase the ramp up rate when the program is devised to make each segment under-achieve to get a steady and continuous ramp.

As we move into warmer spring though, I've not had the need to try it out.
