building a direct drum roaster

Postby Chrisweaver » Fri Apr 18, 2008 11:49 am

Hey Guys

I want to start my foray into home built roasters nice and simply, using a self built direct air drum roaster. Its going to be built around a 1 ring camping stove, with a hinged housing, and a rotating drum inside. Only looking for a 500g capacity or so.

Does anyone have any idea's for drums... I've been searching kitchen stores, and failing!

Chris, talk to Joris ;) You may have to PM/email him though as he's rather busy and not checking TMC often enough (yet :P)
This week, I'm mainly recovering :DAll I've got is my Aerobie AeroPress | 70's Aurora/Brugnetti HX Spring Lever | Mazzer Mini E & SJ (on loan) | Hottop | Nestor Martin (Toto) Gas Roaster | Eva Solo | Moka Pots

Hiya Beany... I'm back ! :) Nice dog in your avatar, is it yours?

Hi Chris, If you can find an old small dryer (for clothes) you'll have your drum, it might be a bit large for the heatsource you're planning to use though. A propane burner for outdoor cooking (see pic) would be sufficient though, they're not expensive.

I am currently working on MyRoaster V2 and will post a thread in a minute or so about it (project in progress).

I'm gonna ask a workshop do make one for me, I dont think i can find a drum with internal "mixer".
It's like a few strips of metal helping the greens to get roasted more evenly.
