I'm a bit worried, however. If you don't want to remove the fancy control panel how are you going to do the next upgrade to the "New Completely Manual Professional HotTop" coversion?

Now that *would* be worth breaking something for :D

Excellent info and photos Jon. Good to have for future reference.
I think this should be made a sticky.

I'm attempting to put together a Wiki article on it, per Dom's request. It's very much a work in progress at the moment.

Two things I did discover, however, while doing my research:

1. There's a much revised install instructions PDF on the hottop USA site. which actually covers the plastic lugs business

2. On the same site, there's a multitude of dismantle / reassemble repair notes for various different parts. Very generally useful stuff for those contemplating dismantling their hottie.

To be fair jon you have something very unique here as one of four people in Europe that have done the upgrade, I'd be keen if the management are ok for me to refer people to the wiki once set up for others to use.

Crikey, I hadn't realised that was the case, Steve. Still, I always knew I was a bit, erm, "special"

I'll try and get this wiki finished as soon as I can. Hopefully it might persuade one or two more to take the plunge.

Very interesting as I have been thinking about the same upgrade.

It makes me much more comfortebel to read your story, so now I just have to convince the minister af finance of the homeland to sponsor me :-) - or wait until the version with an ethernet connection is coming out

Nice, thanks for the post. I am considering upgrading the board on mine. I am a bit hesitant, since the P-board upgrade costs the same as a new Hottop analog :P
I think I will wait for Steve to start selling B-board upgrades. I hope they a LOT cheaper ;P
